Chance Gladden scored 15 of his 20 points in the first half and San Diego State cruised to a 77-66 win against Colorado on Saturday afternoon in the Bill Walton Classic at San Diego.
Latrell Davis scored 18 points for San Diego State (2-0), which won its season opener 102-78 against visiting Cal State Fullerton on Tuesday.
Barrington Hargress scored 33 points as the lone player in double digits for Colorado (1-1), which got off to a slow start and shot 20 percent from the floor in the opening 20 minutes, including 1-for-12 from 3-point distance.
Colorado missed 14 of its first 16 field-goal attempts, as well as both free throws, allowing San Diego State to surge to an early 16-5 lead.
Hargress ended the 9-0 run and a drought of 6:26 by scoring on a drive to cut it to 16-7 with 10:07 left in the first half.
Gladden stole a pass and scored a layup at the other end, stretching the lead to 27-10 with 5:39 left and forcing a timeout by Colorado.
The Aztecs finished the 8-0 run with their biggest lead of the first half at 28-10 and matched that again at 32-14 before Gladden scored on a drive with nine seconds left in the half to make it 35-17, and the Aztecs took that advantage into the break.
Gladden made all four field-goal attempts in the first half and shot 7 for 8 from the free-throw line.
The Buffaloes scored the first five points of the second half to cut it to 35-22
Colorado guard Jalin Holland, who scored a team-high 18 points in the season-opening win against Abilene Christian on Tuesday, went to the bench with his fourth foul with 18:19 left in the game, but the Buffaloes continued to chip away behind Hargress, who scored eight straight points to pull his team within 10.
The Buffaloes got as close as eight points with 16:11 left, but the Aztecs didn’t let them creep any closer.
Isaiah Sy and Davis made 3s on consecutive possessions to stretch the advantage back to 53-37 with 10:15 left and San Diego State maintained the double-digit lead the rest of the way.
